  • Edita Pariente Have anyone heard of Natalie Goldberg? I was able to study writing practice with her and Julia Cameron and eventually found the love for journaling through the practice. It helped me through grieving and loss and I want to be able to share that with others that also need healing. There is a facebook page that I would like to share with you to connect on this wonderful journey. please post any ideas that can help along the way.https://www.facebook.com/SoulWritersBelize

  • Naomi Arnold Oh Dawn, I love that your dedicated to getting the word out. Journaling is a big tool that I use in my coaching practice. Many of my clients have never used it, and experience major benefits once they do. Suddenly their problems become less relevant, or they 'find' a new way of approaching them.

  • Sue Ekins But even if you don't journal everyday, it can have benefits. I admit to being pretty sporadic but if I miss too many days, I find I've got TONS to say to myself!

  • Dawn Herring Edita thanks for sharing the link; yes I'm familiar with Natalie Goldberg. I have several of her books, Naomi, I'm thrilled to hear of the positive experience your clients have with journaling. And yes, Sue you don't have to write every day, whatever works for you. I love the tons word!

  • Carter Matthews Vicki M. Taylor is correct.. it is like about that "Socratic method" form of journaling where you have to be attuned to certain questions or something because it can help you explore even more deeper things to you while journaling or something like that..

  • Vicki M. Taylor I'm not a journal every day because some said you had to journal every day. Eventually you'd be reading about my color of socks and the various moods I was in from one hour to the next. No. I journal emotion and feeling and events.

  • Naomi Arnold I too go with the flow with journaling, not always every day, but more so when it's calling me, or when I start to not feel aligned to myself and my values. I do find that when I do it more often though, I do feel much more aligned and in tune with my mind/body/soul.

  • Dawn Herring I do journal, sometimes three times a day depending; always am and pm. I do it because I love it, more all the time. I do a doodle a day each evening. which is so relaxing and fun. Edita, I know I would feel disconnected if I didn't journal regularly. And now, Vicki, I take it with me when I go out too. Never used to do that til last year.

  • Edita Pariente Yes there is something unique about journaling with images and paint and color and mixed media. It is an awesome freeing experience and to add poetry. This is a beautiful freeing world when you can journal your troubles away! It is truly the path to happiness when used as a tool for that!

  • Naomi Arnold Absolutely Edita, I love this - and it's something many people forget (including myself in the past). It's not about whether you're a good or bad artist (who is the judge of that anyway!?) - it's about self-expression. This is partly why I've been more inspired by this of late - it opens up a whole other element of you doesn't it! It's like you're peering into a little corner in your heart or soul that you haven't quiet connected with yet.

To Jumpstart our journaling discussion and get this journaling party started, I've got some discussion questions to ponder and folks are welcome to answer in the comments below.
Since Vicki talks a lot about the inner workings of journaling and how we can get to know ourselves better through it, here are some questions to help us move forward with Aligning with Ourselves:
How can we go deeper in knowing Who We Are through our journaling practice? What Challenges do we sometimes face in the process? How can we stay aligned with Who We Are more easily through journaling?
